Sock Monkey History
The sock monkey originated in an era when the craze for imitation stuffed animals swept through Europe and the US. It met the thriving Arts and Craft movement. Craft makers began sewing stuffed animals as toys to comfort children. An increase in the public's familiarity with exotic species, monkey toys soon became a fixture of American nurseries. However, these early stuffed monkeys were not necessarily made from socks, and also lacked the characteristic red lips of the sock monkeys popular today.

Sock monkeys remain a popular toy to this day. Most vintage red-heel sock monkeys found today are no older than the late 1950s, and many date from the 1970s. A number of methods for dating sock monkeys have been debated by collectors, including the shape of the red heel, the tightness of the weave, sock seams, the style of clothing worn, and other features. The term "vintage" red-heel sock monkeys is typically relegated to sock monkeys made from red-heel socks knitted by the Nelson Knitting Company and from similar socks knitted with red-heels by other companies in the same time period. The term "modern" red-heel sock monkeys is normally relegated to sock monkey dolls created after Fox River Mills, Inc.(Osage, IA) acquired Nelson Knitting Company in 1992.

It’s a fun, creative mind exercise. It gets your creative juices flowing! "Our brain-workout only takes a minutes and you don't need a jogging bra!" says the creator John Kiely

Who can participate in The Daily SQUIGGLE?
Anyone. But you must “Like” the Daily SQUIGGLE or RandomLine first.
The Daily SQUIGGLE is a kid-friendly site, so use discretion when posting a comment. Any inappropriate comments will be deleted.

How to participate in The Daily SQUIGGLE?

1. Each morning, a squiggly line is posted on our Facebook wall and we ask our FANS what they see in the squiggle.
2. FANS add a comment. ie. “I see an apple tree”
3. Once a FAN adds a comment, they can “Suggest to Friends” (located in the left column under the logo) or SHARE with friends to accumulate the most “Likes” on their comment (see the NOTES tab for a visual explanation). The FAN who gets the most “Likes” on their comment will see their guess come to life in a drawing the following day. We’ll do our best to create it!

If there is a tie, we at RandomLine will choose the winner by adding our “Like”.

Monday through Saturday is for fun, but every Sunday, our FANS have a chance to win a $10 gift card at Barnes & Noble and a SQUIGGLE On-The-Go doodle pad.

The rules are simple when it comes to the Sunday Gift card prize:

Alphabet SQUIGGLE wins a NAPPA Award

RandomLine is proud to announce that Alphabet SQUIGGLE won a National Parenting Publications Awards.

Alphabet SQUIGGLE is a fun, educational board game that introduces letters to kids in a clever new way. Kids will learn and improve letter recognition, stimulate their imagination and strengthen their vocabulary. Children who are just learning letters and those who already know them will enjoy playing. Watch how surprised they get when they see how much they can do with letters.

Players move along the pencil path of letters. For every letter a player lands on, that player must find the letter on the outside edge of the board and either trace it or write it from memory on the sketch paper provided.
